Staying in the theme of this basically being a junk build CNC, I wanted to spend as little on the enclosure as possible. Not having anything suitable around the shop, I headed to one of my happy places. Habitat for Humanities ReStore.

And as luck would have it, I found something that might work on my first visit, and with a $16/25% off tag. A bargain at twice the price.

I don’t seem to have pics from when I got it, but it checked several boxes, removable mounting panel, some through-holes that might be able to be repurposed and basically just the right size. And one other bit of luck, I only had to drill 1(!) hole to get all 3 steppers and power supply mounted. Everything else needed either holes drilled, or as I tend to do in a first past, hot glued standoffs.

And a little labeling here, some wiring there and it’s looking pretty good!

wired up.

Encosure, wired up.

So overall, I think this enclosure is fine for now, the fit is pretty tight. With the goal of adding 2 more stepper drivers I don’t think this box will due in the long term.

Encosure, TOIGHT fit

That’s about it for the enclosure, having taken it apart and put back together several times now it’s not toooo hard to deal with, but something with more room will eventually need to be sorted out.
